Dear New Garden Families,

In August we embarked on a journey together, we navigated through a year of uncertainty in the wake of a global pandemic and we finished strong! When we look back on this year, I know we will do so with the realization that we did it and we did it together! This year could not have been possible without the determination, patience, and resiliency demonstrated by our students, parents, teachers, and staff. I want to thank you for your unwavering support every step of the way and giving us encouragement when it was needed most.

I would like congratulate and give best wishes to our 5th graders, whom I will miss greatly as they prepare to leave New Garden and move on to Kennett Middle School. I am so proud of them and look forward to hearing about all their future successes!

With one and half days left, here’s to warmer weather and better times. Until the next school year, I wish you a healthy, happy, and restful summer.

Mrs. Shoemaker’s Class Celebrates Earth Day 2021

Have you ever wondered how Earth Day began? According to research, the first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970, when San Francisco activist John McConnell and Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson separately asked Americans to join in a grassroots demonstration. Dealing with dangerously serious issues concerning toxic drinking water, air pollution, and the effects of pesticides, an impressive 20 million Americans—10% of the population—ventured outdoors and protested together. This year, many New Garden classrooms participated in Earth Day activities. Mrs. Shoemaker’s class, for example, read an article about Earth Day and then reviewed “main idea” and “supporting details.” They also completed a “color by code” mystery multiplication paper. A culminating activity, as seen below, was to have each child make a replica of the Earth. It was a very educational and fun day!
