New Garden Celebrates Read Across America Week

“Read Across America” Week is always a special time at New Garden, and this year was no different. The week started off with “silly outfit” day. Students were asked to read a silly book as well. On Tuesday, students dressed up as any storybook character. It was also Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Wednesday, students came to school wearing something that represented their favorite sports teams. This was, however, after they read about an influential athlete. On Thursday, students came to school wearing something that represented their own culture. The week ended with students reading their favorite book and wearing their favorite color to class. As you can see from the pictures below, a good time was had by all.

Mrs. Hamill’s 4th Grade Class Creates Self Portraits

After reading the story “Just Like Me” about different artists around the world and viewing their self-portraits, Mrs. Samantha Hamill’s class decided to create their very own self-portraits and write their own version of the poem “I Am an Artist” by Pat Lowery Collins.

Mr. Harris’s Class Plays Fraction Bingo

Everyone loves Bingo! Mr. Troy Harris’s math classes have been working really hard studying fractions. As a fun way to review what they have learned, classes played Fraction Bingo. It was a huge challenge since all four operations were included as well as simplifying and mixed numbers. All winners received a homework pass. It was a fun day in 5th grade.
