A.A. Milne wrote in his 1926 classic, “Winnie the Pooh,” “Piglet noticed that even though he had a very small heart, it could hold a rather large amount of gratitude.” Our little pink friend was grateful for the abundance he had in his life from great friends to a warm place to sleep to even a few tasty “haycorns” to eat. As we conclude 2020, and break for the winter holiday, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to all who help make New Garden Elementary an amazing place to be. I would like to say thank you to our students, parents, and teachers for all of their support during these challenging times. We are so fortunate to live in a community that comes together and unites in what’s best for all OUR children.
This past year has been quite a year, one like no other. It began as a year of promise, a leap year, Valentine’s Day on a Friday, Cinco de Mayo on a Tuesday, 4th of July on a Saturday, Halloween on a Saturday, Christmas on a Friday, and New Year’s gives us a three day weekend. Then came March 13th , a day that we will never forget, we have risen TOGETHER through a global pandemic, virtual teaching/learning, switch to hybrid teaching/learning, then virtual teaching/learning again, then a snow storm, and finally a much needed break! We have learned so much throughout this year and continue to learn, yet most importantly we learned that we are a community with many gifts and talents, which we share daily with one another and especially with OUR children. We have learned that whether we are teaching and/or learning in person or through a screen the commitment and passion is evident and OUR children are demonstrating so many life-long skills for example, grit, resilience, creativity, resourcefulness, and optimism to name a few. I am extremely grateful to all our parents and guardians for masterfully doing what I know firsthand is the hardest and most rewarding job of all. Thank you for entrusting us with your most precious gift. Often, OUR children can make us laugh, sometimes they can make us cry, but always they can make us think and ultimately can make us better. To see the world through the eyes of a child, is to see a world of wonder, of hope, of promise and as I embark on these next couple of weeks I do so through their lens, here’s to a happier and healthier 2021 for all!
In closing I want to reiterate our gratitude for your continued support, communication, and flexibility as we continue on this journey together. Now however we can see the rainbows in between each storm and do I dare say it may finally be lightening up and the sun may be beyond the horizon. It is my wish that each of you have a healthy, restful, and safe break. It is also during this time that I am reminded of my own good fortune to serve as the proud principal of New Garden Elementary. I feel confident that when we all return together, it will be with a greater sense of belonging and a renewed perspective on all of the values that make New Garden Elementary such a special place.

Queridas familias de New Garden,

Nuestro pequeño amigo rosado estaba agradecido por la abundancia que tenía en su vida de grandes amigos a un lugar cálido para dormir, incluso algunos sabrosos “haycorns” para comer. Al concluir 2020, y las vacaciones para las celebraciones de invierno, quiero tomarme un momento para expresar mi más sincera gratitud a todos los que ayudan a hacer de New Garden Elementary un lugar increíble para estar. Me gustaría dar las gracias a nuestros estudiantes, padres y maestros por todo su apoyo durante estos tiempos difíciles. Somos tan afortunados de vivir en un complejo que se une y une en lo que es mejor para todos NUESTROS niños.
Este último año ha sido todo un año, uno como ningún otro. Comenzó como un año de promesa, un año bisiesto, el día de San Valentín un viernes, Cinco de Mayo un martes, 4 de julio en sábado, Halloween un sábado, Navidad un viernes, y Año Nuevo nos da un fin de semana de tres días. Luego vino el 13 de marzo, un día que nunca olvidaremos, nos hemos levantado JUNTOS a través de una pandemia global, aprendizaje virtual, cambiar a la aprendizaje híbrido, luego a el aprendizaje virtual de nuevo, luego una tormenta de nieve, y finalmente un descanso muy necesario! Hemos aprendido mucho a lo largo de este año y seguimos aprendiendo, pero lo más importante es que aprendimos que somos una comunidad con muchos dones y talentos, que compartimos diariamente entre nosotros y especialmente con NUESTROS hijos. Hemos aprendido que ya sea que estamos enseñando y/o aprendiendo en persona o a través de una pantalla el compromiso y la pasión es evidente y NUESTROS niños están demostrando tantas habilidades de por vida, por ejemplo, valentía, resiliencia, creatividad, ingenio y optimismo por nombrar algunos. Estoy muy agradecida de todos nuestros padres y tutores por hacer magistralmente lo que sé de primera mano es el trabajo más difícil y gratificante de todos. Gracias por confiarnos tu regalo más preciado. A menudo, NUESTROS hijos pueden hacernos reír, a veces pueden hacernos llorar, pero siempre pueden hacernos pensar y, en última instancia, pueden hacernos mejores. Ver el mundo a través de los ojos de un niño, es ver un mundo de asombro, de esperanza, de promesa y mientras me embarco en estas próximas dos semanas lo hago a través de su lente, ¡aquí está un 2021 más feliz y saludable para todos!
Para terminar, quiero reiterar nuestra gratitud por su continuo apoyo, comunicación y flexibilidad a medida que continuamos en este camino juntos. Ahora, sin embargo, podemos ver los arco iris entre cada tormenta y me atrevo a decir que finalmente puede estar aligerándose y el sol puede estar más allá del horizonte. Es mi deseo que cada uno de ustedes tenga un descanso saludable, reparador y seguro. Es también durante este tiempo que recuerdo mi propia suerte de servir como el orgulloso director de la Primaria New Garden. Estoy seguro de que cuando todos volvamos juntos, será con un mayor sentido de pertenencia y una perspectiva renovada sobre todos los valores que hacen de New Garden Elementary un lugar tan especial.
