At the 27th Annual Kennett Education Association’s Scholarship and Awards Reception, two current students at New Garden Elementary School were awarded a certificate and gift card. Mr. Troy L. Harris and Mrs. Mary Ella Verdes acknowledged both of these students in a speech which highlighted their academics and school citizenship. The evening ended with a reception that included cake and iced tea in the Mary D. Lang Kindergarten Center’s library.
Fifth grade students at New Garden Elementary School recently created a wax museum. After choosing a famous person, the students used materials from the library media center to write a biographical report. On the day of the wax museum, the students used props and costumes to become their famous person. Then, they stood very still – like a figures in a wax museum – waiting for someone to “push” their button to make them come alive. Once their buttons were pushed, the students would recite their speeches about their famous person’s lives. This amazing biographical project will be remembered and cherished by all students.
