New Garden Versus Greenwood Basketball Game

New Garden Elementary School teachers challenged the Greenwood Elementary School teachers to a friendly game of basketball. After much practice, it seemed like New Garden Elementary School was destined to win; they even had staff cheerleaders who performed at half time. The game was held on neutral territory and the Kennett Middle School gym was filled to capacity. It was a close game with New Garden Elementary School losing by one point.

Storybook Character Day was the culmination to an exciting Read Across America Week at New Garden Elementary School. Throughout the week, students participated in a multitude of fun activities centered around literacy but Storybook Character Day was the favorite.

April Student Spotlight

Weekly, several students meet before school to participate in Math Olympiad with Mrs. Mary Ella Verdes. Math Olympiad is an international contest that promotes:

  • an enthusiasm for problem solving and mathematics;
  • a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts and strengthen ability to use these concepts;
  • a consideration of concepts that students might not otherwise encounter;
  • intellectually stimulating mental activities; and
  • a stronger foundation for assessments and for future mathematics studies.

As you can see from the pictures, these students are deep thinkers and problem solvers.
