The New Garden Elementary School family celebrated Constitution Day by asking everyone dress in patriotic colors – red, white and blue. Students learned about the Constitution by watching videos, making colonial hats, and listening to stories. Some classes did buddy activities. For these activities, the older students helped their younger buddies read about the Constitution and make crafts.

New Garden Launches Reading Olympics
New Garden Elementary School’s Librarian, Mrs. Kristi Pizzini, launched the Reading Olympics program recently to more than 100 fifth grade students who eagerly listened to summaries of the books that will be used for this year’s program. Reading Olympics is a popular event and will be the highlight of the year for many students. The program is limited to 30 students and will begin in mid-October. If chosen, students must commit to become experts of at least five books, as well as arriving a little early to school once a week to meet and discuss their readings. The culminating event is a county wide competition in late Spring.
Announcing: an All In Against Drugs Night for KCSD Parents
Parents:
Please join us in the High School Auditorium for an evening program on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 6:45 P.M. as part of our fight against drug abuse.
KCSD will host an All In Against Drugs Night for all district parents (grades K to 12). Featured will be a video created by the FBI called “Chasing the Dragon,” which graphically illustrates the horrors of opiate drug use. Though we have no knowledge that this is an issue in our community, stories about opiate drugs have been in the news, and we want to give you an opportunity to learn more about the problem.
Also on the program will be presentations by FBI agent and Unionville parent Kevin McShane and Kennett High School counselor Fran Ryan. They will offer valuable advice about keeping our children drug-free and safe.
You will receive an “All In” t-shirt and a t-shirt to take home for each of your children. Though we must limit attendance at this program to adults only, you will learn how you can view this video at home with your children.
All of us at KCSD urge you to attend. We want to be your partners … to help you stay well-informed … to help you be better prepared … so that you can help your children make positive choices and avoid starting on a pathway to drug abuse.
I look forward to seeing you on Oct. 18.
Sincerely,
Barry Tomasetti, Superintendent
Kennett Consolidated School District

Mrs. Hall’s and Mr. Harris’s Buddy Activity
Once again, Mrs. Hall’s and Mr. Harris’s classes will pair up to do “buddy” activities throughout the year. Recently, the fifth grade students helped the first grade students complete an “All About Me” book. The older students helped the younger ones sound out words, cut of replicas of hands, write out words and assemble the culminating project. It was a win-win situation for both grades.
