Every month, Mrs. McArdle holds a writers’ luncheon. During this time, students share their writing pieces with each other. Students love coming to this event and offering feedback to each other. Many styles of writing are shared each month.

First Graders Get Bulldog T-Shirts
New Garden Elementary School has a wonderful PTO. They recently stopped by all of the first grade classrooms to deliver New Garden Bulldogs T-shirts. The students now can wear these t-shirts every Friday for Spirit Day!
Third Grade Visits Longwood Gardens
“Why are there so many plants at Longwood Gardens that are not native to this area?”
“Does that tree produce cones or flowers?”
Those are just a couple questions from the curious minds of New Garden Elementary School’s third grade students during their field trip to Longwood Gardens. In the morning, they applied map skills during an orienteering activity, a navigation race using a map and a compass. We are happy to report that all groups made it through the gigantic maze successfully! Next, the hungry explorers got a chance to eat lunch together. Finally, the rest of the afternoon was spent touring the Conservatory, tree houses, Peirce-duPont House, and Children’s Gardens. It was an educational and fun day spent right here in our amazing Kennett Square!
Fifth Grade Students Visit Myrick Conservation Center
New Garden Elementary School fifth grade students recently visited the Myrick Conservation Center. Their visit was divided into two parts. For the first half, students were engaged in a variety of problem-solving experiences. These activities were designed to break down barriers, foster teamwork, and identify potential leadership among students. During the second half of their visit the students took a sensory journey around a pond. During the journey, the students completed a pond study and learned how the inhabitants of the pond live and thrive in their community.
Mrs. McArdle Has a Positive Message for Everyone
This year at New Garden Elementary School, as we enter the building we are greeted with the quote of the day. These quotes are intended to inspire, encourage, and lift the spirits of everyone in the building … children and adults!
Our principal, Susan McArdle, got the inspiration for the quotes over the summer. “I have always been inspired and encouraged when I read a positive saying, especially when it becomes personally meaningful or you can say, ‘Oh my gosh! Isn’t that the truth! These could be words to live by!’”
The quotes that will be used this year will be short, simple, inspirational, cute, attention grabbing, and thought-provoking. Children need to be equipped with positive self-talk just as much as anybody else. So the next time you enter New Garden Elementary School, be sure to look for our daily quote board located outside the main office.
New Garden Staff Comes Out for a Worthy Cause
Everyday 11.5 children are diagnosed with some form of a pediatric brain tumor. This figure equates to approximately 4,200 children each year. In the fall of 2012, a two-year-old little boy named Grayson became part of that statistic. This little boy is a member of the New Garden Elementary School community. The Grayson Saves Foundation was established by his family and friends after learning of Grayson’s diagnosis. The 4th Annual 5K for GRAY and Kids Fun Run, which raises money for the foundation, was held recently and many New Garden Elementary School staff came out to participate.
New Garden Students & Families Invited to We Are Kennett Night
Kennett High School invites the District’s current elementary and middle school students to We Are Kennett Night on Thursday, November 3 at 6:30 pm.
At We Are Kennett Night, students and their families will learn about the many academic, athletic, and club opportunities that are available at Kennett High School. The purpose of this event is to encourage our younger students to begin considering their educational future at Kennett High School. This will be a fun and exciting opportunity for future Kennett High School students to meet the high school principals, teachers, counselors, and coaches, and to also explore the building to learn its physical layout. The event will kick off at 6:30 PM with a presentation regarding the academic, athletic, and extracurricular programs at Kennett High School.
