Every spring, New Garden Elementary School holds its instrumental concert at Kennett High School. Mrs. Elisa Mata’s beginning strings section, as well as a fourth and fifth grade strings section perform at this concert. Mr. Eric Rutledge directs the school’s full band. The band played a Jamaican Folk Song titled “Caribbean Shores” and a fan favorite, “Star Wars.”
At the 25th Annual Kennett Education Association’s Scholarship and Awards Reception, two current students at New Garden Elementary School were awarded a certificate and gift card for outstanding academics and school citizenship. Mr. Troy L. Harris and Mr. Matthew Jones acknowledged both of these students in a speech which highlighted their academics and school citizenship. The evening ended with a reception that included cake and iced tea in the Mary D. Lang Kindergarten Center’s library.
Roald Dahl’s “James and the Giant Peach” came alive with the help of New Garden Elementary School’s Theater Club. Theater Club members worked tirelessly to memorize lines and Mrs. McCoy and Miss Skopowski worked endlessly to get the set and costumes ready for the students. A good time was had by all.
As part of the Reading Around the World program, New Garden Elementary School students were awarded money in the form of a debit card for the number of minutes they read throughout the year. With this debit card, students could purchase various items. This was a wonderful incentive in which every student at the school could participate.
New Garden Elementary School fifth grade hosted its annual Wax Museum at the end of the school year. To prepare students researched a person of interest, prepared a speech, assembled a costume, and practiced tirelessly. The students below researched Helen Keller, Elizabeth Blackwell, Anthony “Ant” Atkinson, Andy Warhol, Steve Jobs and Danica Patrick, just to name a few. Hundreds of parents, family, and friends attended this event.
